Town planning and metallurgy
The remains uncovered at Harappa and Mohenjo-daro reveal the remarkable skill of ancient Indians in city-building and urban planning. Near the Qutub Minar in Delhi stands the iron pillar of Chandragupta, which despite exposure to sun and rain for well over a thousand years has not rusted, a striking testimony to the metallurgical knowledge of our ancestors.
Mathematics, astronomy and agriculture
The Rigvedic sage Medhaatithi speaks of extremely large numbers, such as ten raised to a high power, so that even foreign scholars praise India in this regard. Indians were also among the first to state the fixed value of pi. In the life-sciences, ancient texts show awareness of the cell, and the Krishi-Parashara records the achievements of Indians in the science of agriculture.
