A spiritual student meditates in seclusion and is warned by his master that a Yellow Dog, the manifestation of his own greed, ego and desire, will try to enter his room and must never be let in. Moved by naive compassion, the student feeds the weak-looking dog; with every meal it grows larger and more aggressive, until it enslaves him, a surreal allegory of how desire consumes the soul.

The Dog of Desire
A young spiritual seeker enters seclusion to attain enlightenment (Irfan). His master warns that during meditation a Yellow Dog will try to enter his room, not a real animal, but the physical form of his own greed, ego, lust and worldly desire, and that opening the door to it will destroy his soul.
Initially the student controls his mind, but soon hears the weak, shivering dog whimpering outside. Filled with naive compassion, he opens the door and feeds it. With every meal the dog grows larger, stronger and more aggressive, eating his food, sleeping on his bed and finally growling at him. By the end it has become a terrifying monster that controls the room, while the student is reduced to a submissive slave, Intizar Husain's allegory that small compromises with greed gradually swallow one's moral character and spiritual freedom.
